Tottenham look set to act quickly if they are to secure a transfer for Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries this summer.

The Dutch star joined Inter after Conte left as manager at the end of last season, but he made quite an impression with the San Siro side and attracted plenty of attention as a result.

The latest report from the Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport claims there is a lot of talk about the 26-year-old heading to the Premier League, with Spurs mentioned ‘mostly’.

However, sporting director Fabio Paratici and boss Antonio Conte will need to move quickly to secure a deal.

gazzetta say Bayern Munich are extremely keen to sign the player. Indeed, the report adds that Bayern like his “growth and dedication”, as well as his “technique and athleticism”.

Dumfries isn’t the only right-handed player on Bayern’s radar, with Ajax’s Noussair Mazraoui also a target. This could open the door to Tottenhamif the German outfit does not know who to sign.

Bayern are also looking to sign Dumfries as a right winger despite nominally being a right-back or full-back.

Conte is expected to be in the market for two new wingers this summer. This is largely due to the Italian not being convinced by both Emerson Royal and Sergio Reguilon.

The latter has been linked with a return to Spain, while Royal could be more useful as a squad option rather than a first choice.

On paper, Dumfries looks like an upgrade for Tottenham, having scored five goals and added five assists this season.

It won’t come cheap, however, with gazzetta suggesting Spurs would need at least €30m to sign him.

Dumfries more polite than Royal

Denzel Dumfries would certainly give Conte a more consistent performer in the right-back role, should he sign.

The Inter man has won 32 caps for the Netherlands. He also has all the right physical attributes to be a success in the Premier League.

While Emerson Royal may look good on his day, there are too many occasions where he is a weak link. His delivery isn’t always up to snuff and his defense can leave a lot to be desired.

That leaves Tottenham with a tough decision. Are they sticking with a 23-year-old who could become a decent performer, or are they spending more money on a ready-made high-flying player?
