Airtime Partecipazioni agrees to acquire German start-up Engy Solutions to strengthen its position in the courier services market

Italian fintech Airtime Partecipazioni SpA (“Airtime”) has agreed to buy German messaging technology start-up Engy Solutions to strengthen its position in the market for communication services via SMS and platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram.

Airtime, a company listed on Euronext Growth Paris, will acquire 100% of the shares of Engy Solutions for 30 million euros, subject to adjustment clauses. The German company has a multi-channel platform that will allow it to integrate more services for Mexedia, the company’s new division dedicated to the business services market.

“This acquisition is the first step of the Mexedia project, created to offer innovative technological solutions to companies”, explained Paolo Bona, COO of Airtime. “We are at a crucial stage of our growth plan which will see more than 50 million euros of investments over the next two years.”

Engy Solutions works with some of the largest international wholesalers in the courier world. It achieved a turnover of 6 million euros in 2021, up 48% compared to the previous year, and an EBITDA margin of 34%.

“Through our involvement with Airtime, Engy will be able to further develop and strengthen its role in the market,” said Axel Bernhard, Managing Director of Engy Solutions. “We are happy to work together on the development of Mexedia and to be part of this team which innovates in a disruptive way in our market.”

Mexedia is a single integrated technology ecosystem that provides a set of services, delivered in the cloud and through APIs, that manage all phases of business interaction with customers, across all channels and devices, using the automation, artificial intelligence and specialized personnel in contact centers.

Airtime CTO Gianluca Granero said the platform Engy has developed over the past three years is characterized by its scalability. “The platform is built according to standards that ensure easy evolution and maintenance, and therefore it has no technological debt”, he explained, adding that the acquisition was “perfectly complementary with the activities of Airtime”.
